Without knowing what how life would be on the boat, surprisingly David and I enjoyed it immensely (minus the sea sickness). The first thing that struck us was to observe how Bill and Sue were such reliable and competent sailors and worked as a team. It all seemed as though it was second nature to them, and that they had been born to it. It is a shame we cannot show a picture of Bill at the wheel and Sue telling David to pull up the anchor with the hand winch, back and forth to ensure the chain was not mangled. Us softy landlubbers found the facilities on board something of a challenge, but this did not detract from the great experience and pleasure gained. We had dinner parties from one boat to another, coffee mornings, coffee afternoons and swimming lessons to a point that I can proudly say I am a swimmer of the Ionian Sea from one boat to another (watch for long distance swims in the next edition of the Guiness Book of Records!)

Phew!! Bill and Sue I am absolutely exhausted just reading about all your calamities and how you have managed to extricate yourselves safely from each one as they came at you like daemons from Hades!! I think Criccieth is going to be extremely tame and sedentary after your three months in Homer territory. It’s great to hear how true sailing folk look after each other in times of need, and not just finding yourselves surrounded by weekend “Comfort zone” G&T soaks who just long to complain about someone else’s proximity to their anchor! It’s raining here in Snowdonia although we have had a nice few sunny days; well it is still August after all!!

Hats off to you Bill for sorting out the over heating engine, sounded like quite a hairy afternoon and well done for using all your skills to getting yourselves out of danger using your sails. Good to see pictures of you all and that incredible crystal clear sea, it looked as though you were anchored in two feet of water! Best wishes to you both and all your guests.

Wednesday 28th July. Thank you Bill and thank you Sue from me and Elaine for a really memorable holiday and for such good company and especially the peanut and cabbage pie/stew. My first time swimming in bottomless seas, allbeit in company but still not letting my mind wander to Denizens of the deep dragging me under, totally irrational for a strong and confident swimmer as I am!! Thanks Sue & Bill – our 3 weeks with you went much too quickly. We loved the boat, the scenery, the sailing, the swimming, the weather, the food …. Hope you enjoy the rest of your ‘Great Greek Getaway’ as much as we enjoyed our time with you.

Hi there both of you – sounds like you are having fun! Life is fine over here – had some beautiful weather over the last few weeks and our solar panels are earning their living !

Another 3 weeks and it will finally be holiday time for us too! Still haven’t booked anything but think we are heading to south Brittany for a couple of weeks.

I do admire your sense of adventure. It seems no time at all since you planned this escapade and now you are deeply in the thick of it. Plymouth is very sunny at the moment and the sea very blue but our dealings with it are stricly with both feet ashore. See you on return.

Sounds like you have found a beautiful spot and tied up!! Wish we were there. Cold here by comparison and London busy and noisy. Have bought a dress and now need to find the other bits. Lovely seeing Zoe. down to Sam’s sunday for Father’s Day. Have a good one. Love Francesca x x
